Plant-based dairy ingredient study

Duration
12 weeks

Project request

Our client, a multinational food corporation, sought BGP's expertise in defining a five-year raw material roadmap. The aim was to select novel raw materials with high potential for use in plant-based dairy products and to support the make-or-buy decision process.

Our work

The results of our study involved an assessment of a long-list of over 100 materials. With the assistance of more than 50 experts, these materials were evaluated based on criteria such as regulatory approval, availability in the coming years, transformation and product perspectives, and sustainability metrics, among others.

We selected the top five ingredients for the five-year roadmap using the analysis and input from pre-treatment/transformation technology experts, ingredient and supply chain specialists, and functional food and ingredient science experts with decades of industry experience.

Project deliverable

We delivered a comprehensive report that included an analysis of a long-list of novel raw materials for use in plant-based dairy, complete with a ranking and detailed selection criteria. The report provides insight into which materials are currently being used by plant-based dairy producers and offers a forward-looking perspective on which materials exhibit the highest potential for future use.
