Designing a progressive novel food regulatory framework

Duration
12 weeks

Project request

Our client has requested us to evaluate existing novel food frameworks worldwide, and to formulate a new progressive novel food regulatory framework and accompanying processes.

Our work

In collaboration with local partners, we reviewed novel food frameworks in various countries, considering a range of criteria such as novel food definition, dossier contents and structure, data requirements, transparency, protection & confidentiality, communication channels, application process, and labeling.

Leveraging the expertise of seasoned regulatory experts and alt protein companies, our team used the benchmarking insights to identify success factors for a cutting-edge, progressive novel food regulatory framework.

We crafted a tailored framework for the client from these success factors, incorporating specific application processes for each procedural step.

Project deliverable

We submitted a comprehensive report encapsulating a competitive analysis of relevant novel food frameworks in, for example, the USA, EU, Singapore, UAE, and Australia.

We also outlined a high-level novel food regulatory framework detailing the setup of authorities, the application processes, key regulations, a list of supporting materials for applicants, an implementation roadmap, and a preliminary budget for the authority.
